This is about BeAnywhere.
Ricardo Simao of BeAnywhere.com hired me through an agency for translating their software from English to German. I had the translation finished within 2 days, although the time-frame allowed for 3 days. After unnecessary delay from Ricardo's side, he was trying to rush me into finishing the translation, because "the project is already late and we need the translations asap." But I took the time I needed to guarantee a first-class translation.
I am a long-time technical translator with an academic background and extensive experience with translating software packages. Have been working on Fedora Project translation and many other projects.
After submission of my translation, Ricardo again delayed the process and asked people to "revise" my translation. Suddenly time was not of the essence anymore, because it took a full week until he came up with a reply.
In his reply he stated that the translation was so bad, that it was so full of flaws it could not have been done by a native speaker. Yes, my mother tongue is the target language. Ricardo claimed that he had to pay a lot of money for a "professional" translation agency to correct the mistakes. Even upon explicit request, he did not list a single of those "flaws."
When I pointed out my experience and that I was a native speaker of the language, he argued I couldn't even take the slightest criticism and that he would never ever work with me again. To which I naturally replied that I would never have looked forward to working with someone who was insulting me without producing any proof and apparently is reluctant to pay the compensation for my translation services.
Probably no need to say that I have never got any money from him. My fault that I did not insist on escrow payment in the beginning, or even an upfront installment.
Ricardo is an utterly unprofessional person, and any service provider should take good care. Insist on escrow payment, maybe even try getting an installment upfront.
The product he represents is beanywhere.com / startcontrol.com. It is a site to collect user information and files and gain control over their computers. The users even have to pay for it. The company is supposed to be Portugese, but while there is company information on the website, I could not track any registration information within the EU.
After telling Ricardo that I am going to take the necessary steps if he fails to execute the payment agreed upon, I never heard from him again. That was 5 days ago. So here I am.
Everybody, beware of this cheat for your own sakes. Save you the trouble and time! Don't expose your confidential information and files to a company that apparently is lacking the basics in professionalism.
My translations and full email correspondence are available upon request.
